Friends and Supporters of Summerbridge Dayton

Summerbridge Dayton is dedicated to providing local at risk (youth of promise) middle school students with academic enrichment and high school and college age students interested in pursing a career in education with an opportunity to fully experience teaching. In order for this unique program to continue serving promising students, continued support from foundations, corporations, and private donors is extremely critical. A gift will provide an opportunity for this program to continue and reach more students in 2007, while also providing meaningful field experience for potential educators.

Without the support from Dr. Percy Mack, Superintendent of Dayton Public Schools and the Transportation Department in providing school buses to us (in kind) for our field trips (National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and The Antioch Company), students would not have been able to participate in any off-campus activities.

Thanks to Wright State University, the Office of the Provost, College of Liberal Arts, and Center for Urban and Public Affairs, as well as our parents and many funders and supporters. Without you, Summerbridge Dayton 2006 would not have been a reality. Thank you so much for your generosity, continued belief in this unique program, and your desire to help see our children succeed.

During staff orientation, a successful middle school salad was made.

The recipe is as follows:

Mix in plenty of SMARTIES, Quite a few RUNTS

A small amount of AIR HEADS

DUM-DUMS to keep us working hard

Add several dashes of JOLLY RANCHERS.

Blend in:

MOUNDS of work by staff,

EXTRA time for learning

SNICKERS to keep things lively.

After a few years of restructuring, rest assured you have become a LIFESAVER in this recipe.

Don’t forget the HUGS.

While the staff thoroughly enjoyed the “salad”, it is believed they enjoyed their Summerbridge Dayton experience even better. The 2006 staff was very engaging and very committed to the students. Learning took place in each classroom and students enjoyed their summer. And this is why we exist.
